Científicos estadounidenses han logrado recuperar la memoria y la audición en personas que sufrían la enfermedad de Alzheimer tras aumentar la concentración de una proteína en su organismo. El método podría curar a personas que padecen esta enfermedad.
El estudio demuestra que aumentando los niveles de la proteína CBP, necesaria para recordar a largo plazo, es posible mejorar la memoria en ratones diseñados para desarrollar Alzheimer, una enfermedad neurovegetativa que afecta la memoria, el pensamiento, la conducta y la capacidad de realizar actividades cotidianas. "Podemos revertir los déficit de aprendizaje y memoria aumentando el nivel de esta proteína", explicó Salvatore Oddo, del Centro de Ciencias de la Salud de la Universidad de Texas en San Antonio, cuyo estudio ha sido publicado en la revista Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
